WASD not working
I'm going to add a QWERTY version, I was thinking that the Alt+Shift toggle was working :/
I got a glitch where the blue bar stopped going down
Yeap that is when you play a game and loose, the second game the Castle Life Bar doesn't work, restart the game to get it work againn I'll not change that in this version, I consider that cheating, I'll do a post jam release lately :)
the blue bar is supposed to represent
The blue bar is the castle HP bar, it decrease when a rat is in a room where you are not in.
semi-inspired by the Witcher
Not directly but we use the same haircut x)
Thx for the feedback @yumaikas ^^
Hi there,
great game, I really like the graphic style. This and the music create a nice immersion. The crafting works also very well (one can easily bloat the gui for that, which you didn't). At first it took me some moments to realize the bombs take some time until they explode, which feels great, once you master that skill.
+1 for Geralt reference!
Great potential. Loved the graphics and the style. Scroll wasn't most intuitive choice for changing weapon for me, be nice if 1, 2, 3 or tab or shift or something was an alternative (in addition to scroll). Wasn't sure what I was doing when crafting, I think I was levelling up the different abilities? Or was I making healing potions. Either way, would love to see this finished or expanded, it looked promising :)
Thanks @HonestDan, the alternative key for the weapons its a great idea !
For the potion it is very simple, yellow potions are heal potions and colors potion are used to reload your potion launcher ! :)
Thanks for your feedback ! Do not forget to vote :)
Looks awesome but sadly, could not get the mac version to work. Right after launching it, I get the error:
newproject quit unexpectedly.
I'm not familiar with NW.js, anything I could do to try to remedy that? I tried launching it from the inside the package from command line and that just threw some nwjs framework errors.
Btw, would have been nicer to have individual packages per platform instead of forcing everyone to download all of em.
Hope you introduce those controls and potion recipes in game somehow. That's quite a lot of stuff to read and remember before even launching the game…
Hey @anttihaavikko, I'm sorry for the mac version, I don't have mac os device so I can't really do anything :/
Sorry but for the controls I just had the time to wrote them in the description, I was hoping to have the time for a Tutorial but the time killed that idea :/
For the Individual package, I don't had the time too, I'm gonna redo them :)
I'm sorry for the mac version again, I can't do anything
Thanks for the feedback @automatonvx, I too thing that they are fast but I don't had time to change that, normally it was planned to add more ennemies more slow but unfortunatly I was short on time, probably cause it's my first jam. :)$*
I'll release a post jam version after the event, take a look if you want ^^
Hmm. I am not really sure what I am doing in this game. I tried playing 5 or 6 sessions and still have no idea how to win or what's really going on.
You enabled anonymous feedback, so I'll go a bit more into detail with my thoughts about the game.
I really like the graphics, they are beautiful and work really well with the theme, really good job on that one.
There are many things I don't like all that much though. First of all, I was using the 64 Bit Linux version, which works well, but sadly it took me several minutes of guessing which of the included files I should actually run. Thanks for providing a Linux version, but you cannot distribute Linux software in a ZIP file. On UNIX in general and Linux specifically, files have permissions associated with them, one of which says "this file can be executed". A ZIP file doesn't transport this information and requires me to guess and try which of the files is actually the executable.
For all Linux users:
chmod a+x nw ; ./nw
does the trick and starts the game.
Then, the fonts were looking weird on my machine. I don't know if that is a problem with not shipping a font, but they were basically unreadable.
I did not really understand how to make ammunition and why the game was over after a while. You might need to add some kind of indicator of what's going on and clarify the UI some.
The music and sound are not bad, but not outstanding either.
For Originality, I cannot really say anything. Maybe if I understood the game a bit better. I feel there is something original in there, but without really being able to play it for a longer time, I think I'm missing the point.
The use of theme is appropriate, but not mind blowing ;-)
So, overall, considering my thoughts outlined above, the size of your team and how I've rated other games, I think between 5 and 6 stars would be appropriate. I am thankful for the Linux version, though (and that you remember to add multiple keyboard layouts - even better would be a configurable keybindings), and feel like I should give you the better of the two.
Thanks for the feedback @rnlf, I think too that the game need a tutorialn but I was short in time so we had no choice but skip it,
To be simple, you can't win, the rats are coming to destroy the dungeon and you have to defend it and your life, your life is represented by the hurt and the dungeon life by the blue bar.
The rats are spawning in the rooms were you aren't (except the alchemist room). The dungeon life decrease when you aren't in a room where there is rats.
The goal is to keep the castle life and your's safe the maximum amount of time.
You have 2 weapons (long range and melee), your launcher have 3 different ammos that are potions :
You can craft this ammos with the alchemic stand, that reload your ammos (see description)
The yellow potions are health potions, small, medium and full.
For the linux version, I don't use linux so I tried it but it seems to be a bit weird.
For the font, I have posted on this website to know if there is a problem cause when I played with a friend PC, the font was not the same.
I'm sorry if you don't like the game but thanks for the feedback, I'll try to improve all that stuff, it was my first gamejam so I was short on time. :)
See ya in an other jam !
It took me a while to understand all the different systems and mechanics, but when I finally got it I went from "omg this is so hard I have no idea what I'm doing" to a pretty cool game that just needs some more balancing and a clearer objective.
I'm impressed with how the game is packed with different mechanics, and also liked the art (not always consistent but mostly great) and the music. The way we attack by launching potions is also pleasant, not mentioning it's a cool take on the theme. Like others I felt a Witcher feel in the game, from the potion drinking to the monster hunting to the bored look on the hero's face ;)
Now what prevents this game from being great is that a lot mechanics are a bit wasted: basically I felt the slowing potions useless, the 3 different health potions are not really justified, and having 4 different item types to recover seems bloated when there's only one way to get them = kill rats (unless I missed something of course). Basically the game would have been much better if there was less time spent on various items & skills and more on giving an objective to the game, which is the second big flaw. After a while I got pretty good at killing rats by "aggro" them somehow and kill them in one or two red potions. Once you have plenty of items and manage to kill rats as soon as they respawn, well… The game becomes repetitive and pointless.
I shouldn't complain too much though because we have the same issue with our own entry ;)
All and all it's still a good entry, maybe try to focus on getting a smaller, more cohesive gameplay with an ending or a high score system for next time! Keep up the good work :)
Play is a bit boring after realizing the best strategy: buy red potions and medium sized healing vials. They don't share the same ingredients and the red potion is the best rat killer in the business.
Never really used the other potions for two reasons. Switcing between them is too slow taken the fast speed of the enemies and, as said before, there is no need to use ice or poison agains the rats. Different enemy types requiring different tactics would solve that issue.
Crafting is simple, maybe too simple. Doesn't feel like alchemy to me, more like a weaponsmith this guy. Alchemy has deeply ingrained in it the pursuit of finding new elements, new mixtures. Here there is none of that.
On top of all this there is little reason to play again. Why isn't there a simple You survived for X seconds in the end? That way I would be motivated to play at least a few more times to improve my score.
Ok entry.
O 5, G 8, A 5, G 5, O 3, T 5
Heh, I like the title - turns out alchemy doesn't put food on the table, eh?
Nice but HARD game - I understand the idea behind it - gathering resources, brewing potions, killing more rats, rinse & repeat - but for me once I waste a couple of explosive potions I'm dead. The melee weapon is very weak and so am I. Maybe once you get in a groove you can get enough potions and stop this being a problem, I dunno.
The graphics is nice, the animation of the dude especially - and the sound and music is fine. I suppose you could call it a roguelike, and you could add more upgrades and items if you wanted to further develop the game. Cool idea but I think it might be a tad too much on the difficult side! Also a tutorial or just some explanation of the various tools and buttons would have helped (although reading the description above is fine). Good work!
Nice graphics, challenging game. I included it in my Alakajam #1 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/-pQ9tgCeUug
Not too bad overall, althought the WASD mode doesn't seem to work right now, unless there's something I missed. WASD not working makes it a bit tricky to play this on a touchpad.
I think I got a glitch where the blue bar stopped going down? It made the game very easy, though I don't know what the blue bar is supposed to represent.
Is this semi-inspired by the Witcher? Seems like a very Geralt sort of thing to do.
