treslapin • 5 years ago on ScoreSpace x Alakajam! entry  Hello, Operator?

I really love taking part in Alakajam, this will be our 4th time here. I even took Monday off from work so we could participate. 💪

As always, I'll be using Procreate on the iPad for sketches and Illustrator for final artwork.

I'm hoping to record more of our process this time around, here's a sample from our last jam:

And the finished product:

So, I'll be entering into the game jam and I'm suprer excited. I remember my first solo game jam. I didn't even finish. Last month, I won Cowboy's 100$ game jam. I placed better than I thought I deserved at Ludem Dare. I'm hoping to beat myself this time. Wish me luck.

Here's the programs and resources I'll be utilizing:

Game Maker Studio 2 - game engine (we discuss why I chose GMS elsewhere, but that's what I'm using)

Aseprite - great program for pixel art

Bosca Ceoil or Chrome Music Lab - depends on the time I have left when I'm finished with the game, which one gets my attention. BC is very involed.

Audacity - voice work

BFXR - snd efx work

Coffitivity - so I can work alone but feel like there's chaos around me (artifical noisy crowd app)

Pandora - because music is life

A special shout out to Bawls energy drink. I love you Bawls, you've carried me through so much but thanks to a visit to the cardiologist, I will be retiring Bawls from the team and replacing them with 5 hour energy drink.

That is all :P Good luck to everyone.

I'm in for my first 72h gamejam in solo 1

This will be my 8th Alakajam but I usually participate with @Wan and more recently with @Balboom.
Sadly, this time they won't be available so I decided that I'll try making a game in solo.

My plan for this jam will be to play with some things I want to try with Unity
I would like to try the new input system, the new UI builder and if I can find an idea that permits it, I would love to try the ml-agent package to create an AI.

I know this will be a big challenge to try so much things but who cares? ^^
And I restricted myself, I will not try the new DOTS system in beta :D

Here's what I'll be using:

  • Unity
  • VS Code
  • Blender for low poly
  • Paint.net if I need some 2D
  • and I have no idea what for sound if I have some time left for it

I'm in for my 18th game jam! 4

DaFluffyPotato • 5 years ago on ScoreSpace x Alakajam! entry  Lynez

This will be my 9th Alakajam (I competed in 1 PyWeek and 8 Ludum Dares too).

I've been working on a new framework to help me quickly build well performing and scalable platformers, which I'm excited to possibly be using for this event. I've been using it to work on my largest project ever. \o/

I'll probably stream most of the jam on my YouTube channel (only the dev, not the ScoreSpace part) if anyone is interested.

Here's what I'll be using:

  • Python
  • Pygame
  • Aseprite / MSPaint
  • My Custom Platformer Framework
  • LMMS
  • SFXR / Microphone

Good Luck!

Time flies... Don't miss the 10th Alakajam! 0

Wan • 5 years ago on 10th Alakajam!

Alakajam! is soon reaching a pretty round number, will that mean anything special? Nothing particular is announced yet, but it surely is a chance to look back at the three year long history of our small but peaceful community.

See you on the 18-20 September 2020 week-end for that milestone event!

ScoreSpace x Alakajam! / June 19-22 4

Wan • 5 years ago on ScoreSpace x Alakajam!

The game jam multiverse is collapsing! In June, Alakajam! and ScoreSpace will join forces to offer you a special event.

For 72 hours, from Friday to Monday, all entrants are invited to make a game. Teams or solo devs, beginners and professionals are all welcome to participate. On top of that, in a unique twist to game jams, ScoreSpace brings in the idea of making streamers compete on your jam games.

Overview

Detailed schedule

Dates Phase Description
June 5, 7pm UTC Theme submission and voting Submit theme ideas for the jam and vote for all other ideas. Submissions will be eliminated as the week progresses, until only the best remain…
June 12, 7pm UTC Theme shortlist The best 10 themes are revealed. Rank them by order of preference in this final phase of theme voting.
June 19, 6pm UTC Countdown stream An official stream by @DanaePlays is held on Twitch to launch the event!
June 19, 7pm UTC THE JAM!!! Start making a game solo or as a team, and simply submit it before the deadline!
June 22, 7pm UTC End of jam The game development competition ends here, exactly 72 hours after the start time. Submissions will remain open for an additional hour after the deadline. An alternate unranked jam will be held simultaneously for those who want to join and exchange feedback, but not compete.
June 27, 7pm UTC Jam results After five days during which all entrants play, rate and comment on other peoples games… The results are released and the 3 awards will be given! "Developer's Solo Choice & Developer's Team Choice" (highest Overall rated entries), plus a special "Streamer's Choice" (picked by the event streamers) will be kept for the next phase.
June 28, 7pm UTC High score results For 24 hours, the event streamers will compete and livestream while they play the 3 awarded games. Their goal will be to climb the leaderboard and hopefully win the competition. During that time, community members can of course play and submit scores too!

Rules

See the full rules for the ScoreSpace x Alakajam event here.

How to enter

All you need to do is:

  1. Create an account on this website
  2. Publish your game before the deadline

An itch.io event will also be created for those who want to submit their game there. However, the ratings phase will only take place here, so make sure to also submit your game on alakajam.com to be part of the official competition!

An update on the next Alakajam! 4

Wan • 5 years ago on ScoreSpace x Alakajam!

You may be wondering why little has been announced since the last AKJ Tournament. Behind the scenes, we are actually preparing the 9th Alakajam! to be a special event, and could not announce too much before it is set in stone.

Things are taking shape, so I can tell that the June event should see Alakajam! team up with another community of gamedev enthusiasts :) The two communities make a nice match, as our respective twists to the game jam formula can blend together nicely and make the whole event bigger and more fun. Expect the detailed schedule of this special jam to be announced in the next few days, when all details are finetuned!
