A vertical scrolling bullet hell shmup
A stupid bullet hell shoot'em'up. You play as a muscular dude in a swimsuit and you have to shoot the evil flying robots. Some of this makes very little sense, and the rest of it makes no sense at all. And yes, the connection to the theme is tenuous at best.

I started with a very different game inspired by this Tom Scott video, but couldn't really make the idea work, so I started over with a simple shmup. The advantage of that genre is that you can have a working and complete game within a few hours, and use as much or as little time as you have remaining to add more content.
Made with Godot, Aseprite, jfxr and LMMS.
Fun game. Once I realized I could hold down the space bar, it was smooth sailing, for the most part. Even so, there were times when I was on the edge of my seat. The music fits the theme well. I love games with simple controls and intuitive game-play. I guess the graphics could be fleshed out a bit; on the other hand, sometimes “less is more," as they say. Nice work, Chief.
Great! I rarely see shmups as jam entries, and this one was fun to play, if a bit easy. Cool art, a boss design so fun I had to beat him twice, nice tunes and way too many health powerups. I like the 'Super Robot' player character, and with so much spare health sometimes I decided to simply punch my way through the mines.
I wish the projectiles were quite a bit larger to help distinguish them more from the projectiles, and the player can reallllly build up a lot of velocity and move much faster than projectiles, which is an interesting feature, but these are pretty minor criticisms, wonderful entry!
I beat both bosses… and now am trapped, flying through the void forever, able to shoot but nothing to shoot at. I must shoot 'em up but I have no 'em.
More seriously though, the game felt very easy. Getting +1HP for every single enemy kill (+ boss arms) is too generous. For a "bullet hell" I would expect more complicated and intentional bullet patterns, bigger bullets, smaller player hitbox. The movement also felt strange, like there was a high velocity cap but the acceleration was slow at first. Acceleration (rather than full speed or no speed) in general in a shmup is unusual AFAIK.
Anyway, it was a fun game :)
Yeaah, PEW PEW! I obviously didn't read the description before playing, so I almost gave up because the wait before the boss was so long :D
I started writing this comment and heard shooting noises. Sound effects are nice. Graphics are even better, but the pixels are scaled unevenly which I hate.
People here seem to have commented the bullet hell criticism so I don't go into that :D
Fun game!
initial impression: gray status bar…. THE GAME!
is it moving? did it stop?
it stopped.
or i'm pretty sure it stopped.
i try to refresh.
gray status bar.
then i get going.
pew pew. hold down the space bar.
fight the robots. dodge the mines.
at one point i got up to quite a few hearts.
i even beat the boss….. or at least, THE FIRST BOSS.
then i got killed by the second boss.
