Get coins. Avoid bullets and mines. Shoot down the enemies. Don't get off the screen.

This game is developed for a custom game console. Therefore, it isn't possible to run this game on your machine. I'm sorry about that.

Please view the first 10 minutes of the Youtube video and rate this game as you wish. The video shows you the feature and the game mechanics. If you aren't interested in the explanation of the gameplay, view the Gameplay MP4 to check out how does a real gameplay looks like. If you do not like the idea of rating a game that you can't play, please do not rate it. I'm cool with this game end up not getting a rank.

Here are the game mechanics:

  • It's a platformer game. The character can walk to the left, right, or jump. There's no double jump.
  • There're new platforms keep spawning from the bottom. The platforms move up continuously. The character can stand on the platforms.
  • If the character get out of the screen (e.g. getting pushed to the top by a platform), you lose the game.
  • There're three coins shown on the screen. Taking one would increase your score by one, along with the difficulty of the game being increased.
  • Some platforms are conveyors. They're able to move the charater to the left or to the right while the character standing on the conveyor. The amount of conveyor platforms depends on the current difficulty of the game.
  • Avoid hostile entities. Mines move from the bottom to the top. Bullets move from either the left or the right and travel horizontally across the screen. Enemy would chase the player. The player has to shoot it down by using the laser gun before the enemy gets the player. The spawn rate of hostile entities depends on the current difficulty of the game.
  • The speed of the entire game is also affected by the current difficulty of the game.
  • The background of the game has some black dots (i.e. stars) moving upwards. That creates an illusion of the player falling down.
  • Saving highscore to SD card is implemented

Please refer to the Youtube video (coming soon) or Github for the details of the gameplay.

Wow! Impressive, that you developed a custom console and made a game for it in only 2 days. The game looks really cool and there are a lot of mechanics in it. Also is the art in the game well made. The only thing that I noticed was that the game is a bit slow especially in the beginning. And it is also really strange to make the game more difficult by increasing the framerate. I think it would be better to maybe increase the speed of the platforms and making the jump of the player faster than at the beginning. This way will the animations and the jump stay the same.

Looks nice, shame i cant give it a play.

Perhaps a future project, Create an emulator so we can give it a go? ;P

Thanks for your comments.

@DrSkort To clarify, the game console is an existing project that I had been working on for months. It's a work-in-progress and it's expected to be completed some time in 2019.

@Rardo I do have the idea of making an emulator. I'll consider doing that after the completion of the game console. The console is still under development. Thank you for your suggestion! :)

It's a bit difficult to see well the game, but it seems fun and I feel like I'd like a try. Plus it's well in the theme.
And it's so cool to have an exotic entry in the list of the games.
Good work!

Are you creating the game console as a study/hobby project or as a prototype for a commercial product? I notice you have quick a few mechanics in this game, about as many as I can imagine in a 48h gamejam. In particular as you obviously didn't have a fancy game engine to use and had to code everything from scratch. Very impressive indeed.

I do think it's very difficult to rate a game from just a movie. It looks fun, but I would have liked to play it/feel it myself. I did give you 10 stars in originality for this one, as I can't imagine there being a lot of custom consoles in the jam.

That's the first 10 stars for originality I've ever given a game, you definitely earned it. This is super awesome and I loved watching the explanation video all about it. Good luck on the development of the system!

game looks cool and I'm sure it gets quite challenging at 30+ coins!

Checked it out it looked really nice. If possible release it on other platforms as well. It is great to know that you have a custom console.

Thank you for the comments of you guys.

@maartene This project is merely a hobby project. The main objective of this project is to learn. Of course I'd be happy if I somehow managed to sell this product. Anyway profit-making is not the main objective of this console.

About the game engine: Although I do not have a fancy engine, I did reuse a small portion of code, like within 50 lines or so. That was written when I made another demo game before this jam. One of my purpose of joining this jam is for me to test out the possibility of rapid game development on this console. And it worked. I'm rather happy to find out that I can develop a game for this console almost as quickly as using other high-level PC/mobile game libraries. :)

What's the possibility of having an emulator for your console? Do you use anything to prototype the game? I'm really asking: Can I play it?! >:3

Looks fun, agree with the comment that it starts slow. I love the idea of the difficulty increasing specifically and regularly with coin pickups. This is genius.

Looking forward to what else you make. Thanks for the work you put in and for thinking inside a completely different box. :p

That is extremely cool. The game looks great too, impressive that you could make that in a weekend without any of the tooling that is usually available. Did you code it in C++, C or straight up assembly?
