Final week of voting! 0

dollarone • 5 years ago

There's only one week left to play and rate games! On July 8th at 7pm UTC, the ratings will be counted and the top 3 of the solo and team categories will be crowned!

In order to make as many games as possible receive a rating, games are now displayed in "rescue mode" which means games that need ratings will be displayed at the top!

Help your fellow Alakajam community members out and play and rate some of these games! Constructive feedback is one of the best ways to learn and improve your game design skills, so let's make as many games as possible get some feedback!

Let's rescue some games!

Play and rate games! 1

dollarone • 5 years ago

That's it, all the games are in - well done everyone! Now it's time to play and rate each other's games!

Constructive feedback is one of the best ways to learn and improve your game design skills, so please dish it out in buckets. If you haven't submitted a game yourself, you can still play games and leave feedback, the only thing you'll miss is the ability to rate games - so please do play and comment everyone!

The voting phase lasts until July 8th, when the ratings will be counted and the top 3 of the solo and team categories will be crowned!

Go go go! Play and rate games!

The ranked competition is over! 3

Wan • 5 years ago

Congratulations everyone for joining the jam :) You just made a game in 48 hours, which is an impressive achievement in itself!

And if any one is left unsatisfied, or even could not finish their game, I'm sure it helped you improve your game making skills, meet some people, or just have a fun week-end so there's always something positive to take away from it. We're always growing after all B-)

Submissions are still open for unranked submissions: while those won't be officially ranked, they can expect as many people to play & comment on them. So, if you haven't finished your game in time, it's actually not too late to complete something! Game submissions will completely close Monday at 9pm UTC.

We will post more details about the voting phase tomorrow evening, but you can already go play & review games right now!

Ranked jam: submission hour! 1

Wan • 5 years ago

The time to work on your game ends tonight at 7pm UTC for ranked entries. After that time, you have one additional "submission hour" to build your game and submit it to the site. Be careful, because so the submission of ranked entries will be effectively closed at 8pm UTC.

Voting will start right after the submission hour, so if you are looking forward to play some games, you can do so right away.
Unranked jammers have additional 24 hours ( + submission hour) so for them the doors close on Monday at 9pm UTC.

And the theme is Always growing! 3

dollarone • 5 years ago

The 3rd Alakajam has started! Let's get cracking!

Submission

The deadline depends on whether you want to enter the ranked or unranked category:

  • ranked: June 24th 7:00pm UTC, which means you have 48 hours
  • unranked: June 25th 9:00pm UTC, which means you have a bit more than 72 hours

For both categories, you have one additional hour to submit your game.

We all enjoyed the awesome opening ceremony created by @Aurel300 and @DanaePlays . If you missed it, you can still find it at Danae's Twitch channel.

And the theme is Always growing!

Lots of things are always growing…

Cool things to do during the jam

  • Write blog posts: share your thoughts on the theme, post your progress, images of #gamedevfood or gifs of gameplay (or cute animals!)
  • Follow the Alakajam Twitter account and tweet about #alakajam
  • Check out the streams and videos

Most importantly: have fun! Good luck!

It's finally here - the day when the 3rd Alakajam kicks off!

In just four hours, the theme of the jam will be revealed. Building up to this grand revelation, we will gradually get rid of the other themes - one by one - and you can follow along on twitch from 6:20 pm UTC with DanaePlays and Aurel300! Special guests are wan and myself, and there will be opportunity to interact from the twitch chat, including winning some fresh Alakajam goodies!

Join us at 6:20pm UTC for the final countdown towards the theme revelation!

Shortlist voting started 3

dollarone • 5 years ago

During the last week, over 200 theme suggestions have been submitted and almost 9000 votes have been cast.

Now the second round of theme voting starts: Shortlist voting! This means theme submission is no longer possible - instead, the ten most popular themes from the first phase will be available for everyone to rank. Drag and drop the themes into a ranked list in order of preference.

If you have not done yet, also feel free to create an "I am in" Post. What tools are you using? What is your setup like? Did you take part in previous gamejams? Tell the community a little bit about you and your goals for the upcoming 3rd Alakajam!

Finally, in one week, the jam kicks off! Exciting!

Theme submission and voting now open! 0

dollarone • 5 years ago

The 3rd Alakajam is happening from June 22nd to 24th. But first we have to find a theme! You can now submit themes you like and vote for the themes of other participants. All you have to do is to create an account and start to submit and rate themes.

The voting process

For one week (starting June 8th) you can submit up to three theme suggestions and rate theme suggestions from others either positively or negatively. After one week, on June 15th, theme submission will be closed. The top ten themes will then be made public and everybody can rank them in order of preference

The final theme will be announced with the launch of the jam (at Friday June 22nd, 7pm UTC), live on stream.

Things to do right now

Do you know what time it is? It is soon time for the 3rd Alakajam!

The 3rd Alakajam will take place the weekend of 22-24th June.

What is an Alakajam you might wonder? Well, the idea is simple: Make a game, from scratch, in just a weekend. You can do this on your own, or in a team, You can be a seasoned pro or a total beginner.

If you like video games and are motivated to create your very own game, keep reading!

The 3rd Alakajam is kicking off very soon! But first we need to decide on a theme, which we do with a process where people can submit their own themes and vote for all other submissions. Once we are closer to the jam, we will crop the list to the top 10 suggested themes, and there will be a final theme voting phase. The final theme will be revealed on stream just as the 3rd Alakajam starts! Excitement!

The full schedule is listed below:

Schedule

Dates Phase Description
June 8-15th Theme submission & voting You can submit theme ideas for the jam and vote for all other submissions.
June 15-21st Theme shortlist Only the best 10 themes are kept. Rank them by order of preference in this final phase of theme voting.

Rules

There are three divisions:

  • Solo, in which you make a whole game alone in 48 hours
  • Team, in which any number of persons can gather to make a game in 48 hours
  • Unranked, a more open division which grants about 72 hours to finish the game. Useful for those not interested in the competitive aspect of the event, or feel like the rules are too restrictive for them, or simply did not finish their game in time.

See the full rules for the Alakajam.

How to enter

All you need to do to enter is to create an account on this website, and publish your game before the deadline. There are actually two different deadlines: the solo and team competitions ends after 48 hours and the unranked jam ends after 72 hours.

A lot of participants also post an "I am in" blog post presenting yourself or your team at some point before the event. Describe what tools and frameworks and engines you will use to create your awesome game! Which themes do you like? Let us and the community know!

Please spread the word about the 3rd Alakajam - the more we are, the merrier! And of course: good luck - and have fun!
