Destroy, Jump, Dodge

Aerial Blast is a platformer shooter set in the sky (on sky islands). You have to shoot the orbs while avoiding enemy projectiles. Try to get the fastest time!

There are 6 levels. Good luck!

This is my first game jam and first Alakajam entry. I think I have done pretty well for my game jam, especially since this is the first time I have actually finished a game. The music was made in the last 20 minutes so don't expect anything of quality.

Fun little platformer. Good sfx though no music that I could hear. Enjoyed the physics and the combat, smooth.

A fun platformer, and right on theme. The enemy projectiles passing through cover kept the player busy for sure. The mouse aiming combined with keyboard for movement worked well.

I made it to level 4 - I guess platformers are not my strong suit… :) Those were some pretty aggressive bushes indeed.

I experienced an issue a couple of times, where the jump button would not register if I was moving in the D direction at the same time, although I didn't manage to reproduce it consistently.

Good work, especially for a first game jam - also, congratulations on completing your first jam!

@Somnium Thanks for playing my game and giving feedback!

Tbh I do think I may have made some of the levels too hard but I guess that makes up for the lack of levels.

With the jumping issue, I actually have it so there is 0.2 second cool down for jumping, I guess that would make it feel a bit unresponsive at times. Thank you for time and feedback.

I made the music a bit quiet so that it would not be too loud and overlap the sound effects.

The game is very fun, I really like the gameplay and the graphics are very clean. Special mention for the many feedbacks, the game is very juicy ✨

Just a small remark, the game is not very easy to handle for a left-handed player. You should have put the jump on the up arrow or 0 on the numpad 😉

I really focused on the game polish before creating the levels, so im happy that you think that its good.

Although it is a minor issue that can be fixed in 5 minutes, im sorry that I did not consider the possibility of a left-handed player. I will remember this for future game jams, so thanks for your time and feedback!

Nice simple little game, though it took me longer than I'd like to admit to beat. I liked the shooting and the platforming felt smooth (though I think the player moved too fast considering how small many of the platforms were). On one level (I think level 3?) I fell off a platform and never respawned (just fell forever), so that could be something to look into.

As I have said in another reply I do think I may have made some of the levels too hard but I guess that makes up for the lack of levels.

I wasn't able to get any playtesters so I couldn't get much feedback on the movement (for me it was fine), but the fast movement allows you to dodge easier and make it more skillful (which can be good or bad).

With the respawn issue, I think the death barrier probably wasn't long enough as I do remember falling and not dying once, but its only a minor issue for a game jam game.

The game was really fun and pretty difficult too!

I also got the same gltich where when I fell off at level 3 i just fell forever.

I really liked the art!

Small thing is that the tutorial said w to jump but it was space bar?

Also i think there should have been a small delay when you jump just after being on a platform. When I tried to jump often it justed ended with me falling off the platform. But other than that, great game!! Congrats

Yea I dunno why I put W in the tutorial thing, I was probably tired.

I was gonna add coyote time (small delay) but I didn't have enough time because I had to create some levels. But I was also trying to make things a little bit tricky because there wasn't many levels, although for me, since I created the game and tested it loads, I'm quite used to the movement.

Nice platformer. The movement and controls feel direct and responsive and I had no glitches or bugs. The particle effects for the player are a very nice juicy touch and the clouds add a nice movement in the background.
The pixel art is well executed. I could imagine that some structure in the earth-blocks could make it look even more interesteing.

The gameplay felt a bit asymmetric, as player shots are blocked by level geometry, but enemy projectiles could pass through the level.

My biggest complaint would be that the sound effects are way louder than the music, which is a shame because the music is actually really good (although short).

So congratulations on your first game and welcome to the Alakajam community, great to have you around! :)

@Laguna Thanks for playing my game and giving feedback!

What do you mean by "a bit asymmetric", like is that good or bad in terms of level design? I made enemy projectiles pass through the ground as otherwise it would be pretty easy to dodge.

Its the first time i made music, and it was made in about 20 minutes in beepbox. I made it a quiet because i didn't think it was that great and I felt as though it didn't really fit the game.

Heya!
I streamed your game on my stream. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1591765903?t=1h15m23s
Congratulations on finishing your first game and enter your first gamejam game! :D
I really liked your artstyle, but the learning curve was quite steep. And I easyly lost patients during the 4th lvl.

all in all a pretty solid game! Well done!

PSA: After some users voiced questions about the art here looking similar to DaFluffyPotato's work, we have discussed the case with the game author, and came to the conclusion that the art is fully original. The author simply used Fluffy's games as reference to help learn pixel art, so Aerial Blast remains within the rules of the jam.

If this eventually becomes a problem with half the jammers submitting Fluffy-likes, we may decide to change the rules :D

Nice game! Looks so bright and controls pretty well. Biggest problems for me are that enemies can shoot you even when you never saw them, but you can't hit them outside of the screen. At least I couldn't even though I tried for so so long :D
Another issue is that the character moves really fast and you have to time the jump perfectly. Usually these kinds of games give you a couple of frames in air before you fall down. That would make the jumping around a lot better. But that's a pretty advanced feature, I guess.
But I made it through and it was a nice shooter! Last two levels I realised that I only have to hit the targets, so I ninja'd through them pretty fast.
Amazing first entry. I hope we see you again!
