A sidescrolling bullet hell shooter where you reactivate phone relays
You have an important job: While everyone is staying inside due to an alien invasion, you're out there making sure people can make phone calls. Do your best and survive!
All art, music and code made in PICO-8.
Controls:
Arrow Keys - Movement
Shoot - X
Shield - C
I really liked the pixel art, it looks very smooth!
I do agree that it gets repetitive rather fast, and also I think the game's missing some sounds like aliens dying for example.
Overall, artwise it's a hit, but the gameplay might need a bit more balancing, adjusting to feel better.
The music is nice too!
Great story and mood, the game itself was a bit repetitive.
Shooters especially benefit from sfx on shots / death etc. It's an easy way to give player some feedbacks but also could have ruined the bgm mood.
The gameplay is a bit repetitive. I wish weapons start to spawn sooner, and also different shoot paterns for monsters.
Thank you all for your great feedback! I agree with all of it myself. There is actually quite a variety of SFX in the game for bullets, enemies, recharge etc., but I didn't know that PICO has limited channels available and that music and SFX can cancel each other out. So what happens is that most of the SFX just get cut off constantly. :(

This was a really charming little game. I appreciated the little narrative that appeared every so often. It really helped build the fantasy. The connection to the theme was a maybe a little tenuous on the gameplay side but the story helped tie it together. Would have been fun to see this game with more enemy and screen variety, maybe some destructible blocks to take cover behind and enemies with different attack and movement types or shields, etc. Great job with this!
