Make as many burgers as you can in your first shift at the TastyTower food truck!
7th Alakajam – 20-22 September 2019
Theme: TOWER
Title: Tasty Tower
About the game
In this entry, you are a new recruit working at the Tasty Tower food truck! It is infamous in town for its questionable hygiene, though it doesn't stop hungry workers from coming back every lunch break. Your boss at Tasty Tower wants to see how well you perform on your first shift.
Gameplay
You have to successfully complete as many orders as you can in the given time.
Each order is broken down into a list of ingredients, and you have to correctly stack each ingredient on top off each other. If an incorrect touches the plate, the order is reset.
Lobbing an ingredient starts a combo, which multiplies your score. The combo breaks when the ingredient misses the plate.
Each successfully completed order gives you an extra 10 seconds.
Controls
Use the mouse and hold left-click to drag the requested ingredients onto the plate. The ingredients keep their inertia if you release the click.

Fun little game! It can quickly get hectic as you try to stack the burgers faster and faster.
Pros:
Cons:
I had a lot of fun playing it. At first I was thinking that freestyle is not worth the risk, but with time and pratice you learn to manage it. Sometime I have the feeling that some inredient are not counted in even if I put them right. Maybe because of double ingredient in a row. Taking them out of the game would make the orders easier to read.
Awesome job! I'm not really a fan of these kinds of games but I played this one for quite a while. I really think there's a good bit of general polish and quality to it which makes it work fantastically compared to similar games I've played in the past. I guess my only real complaint is that your score seems largely luck-based, since you get the same time bonus regardless of order.
Thank you very much for your feedback!
Bearing in mind what has been said, RocketRager and I have been working on a post-jam version of the game, which you can play at by following the link below:
https://rocketrager.itch.io/tastytower-postjamversion
Cheers, keep jamming!
Thank you a lot for your feedbacks !
PostJam version :
Change :
° Better physic
° Freestyle effect disapear with more style
° Time win by burger, is now relative to order size
° Burger is no longer lost after fail, just the last ingredient is lost
Add :
° Bonus time for freestyle
And Bug fix
@im_a_good_boye about your score :
I think you exploited a bug that I corrected. So I think I must suspend your score .
@RocketRager yea I exploited the fact that freestyle combo persisted which I didn't know was supposed to be a bug but because I'm really good at freestyle, I can go on indefinitely now with the bonus time given. I posted a new highscore for the postjam version. I honestly only wanted to get just above my other score but I realize now that the in game score counter only goes up so fast so it ended up being a lot higher than I would've thought it was lol.
@im_a_good_boye Yeah I was sure that you exploited this bug but OMG ! How can you score as many points ?? We must found a solution to produce a game end for great players like you…
MAJ PostJam version:
Add:
° floating effect when freestyling
Change :
° Freestyle harder to do
° Score counter works better with hight score
@im_a_good_boye Can you kill the game one more time ?
@RocketRager I can still go indefinitely lol
just stopped around here since I have classes soon: https://puu.sh/EkOBT/dc27ff9640.png
but I can definitely tell freestyle is not as lenient anymore, thanks for all the updates~
@RocketRager ah but there is a game breaking bug where if you restart sometimes you get a customer that isn't asking for anything and if you put something down the game freezes

Excellent use of theme, I had the same idea but didn't follow through with it, your execution was great though. Although I am concerned about the longevity of a burger truck where people order dead rats covered in condiments… I absolutely loved the use of sounds, the little laugh when they're happy with what you're doing is great. Some of the towers got really large though and I think that severely impacted the number of points you could earn.
This is really fun, to play and conceptually. I wasn't sure if there was a consistent reason for customers getting a big smile and laughing but that was always a delight. Sometimes I'd put on the ingredient they wanted and they'd get upset, not sure why. The flies going away when the truck opens and returning when it closes was awesome. Played it once so idk if you set it up to do this a lot but one of the last requests before I ran out of time was for the dead rat on the counter and that was just awesome. You built a great aesthetic with the graphics and music.
Super fun game, the little touches are what makes this dirty little game really entertaining. Those crazy burgers that never end with clients requesting mustard 3 times in a row, the dumb laughs of satisfaction, the random client asking for a dead mouse with ketchup on top, the impossible look of our finished burger towers, the "freestyle" bonus we get for throwing ingredients… The list of funny details goes on and on and makes us play with a smile on all game long.
The art is fitting, the music is fun, everything is cohesive to make the game quirky and dumb but cool at the same time.
I almost didn't realize in my playthroughs that the depth of the game lied in the "throwing ingredients" part. Before that I felt that the game lacked depth, but then it was suddenly a game of skill and risk taking, which was a good surprise (apart from the "freestyle" noise which got repetitive). I feel high scores could easily get into the 5 digits.
Great job guys!
