Cat Connections

A game about cats, wool and life in general

The Game

You control a cat who have to link yarn and needles of the same color to gain points. But he must never cross to wool of a different color !

Your lives count reset at each level.
Longer wool lines makes more points !
You can cross wool of the same color !

Known Issues: Sometimes the game can crash randomly if you use the "restart" button to many times. Try just killing the app and relaunching it, and sorry for the inconvenience.

The Music

My last jam entry had no audio so I tried to make it better this time. Unfortunately we had 20 min to record and integrate all the audio, it was recorded with a phone microphone and sung by overexcited roomates.
We understand if you need to mute it. Sorry.
(Be careful, the theme can be catchy)

Am I in love? OF COURSE I AM

Seriously, that's a nice game. Not that original, but still, I played enough to make 2450pts :D

What a cute game! I loved the art especially. The concept was nice but I think you could have improved it by forcing the yarn and needle to spawn in an empty space, since otherwise I would sometimes be forced to lose lives when a yard ball of one colour spawned on a thread of another colour. Still good job though.

Cuteness overload :)
Meow, meow meow meow meow meow, meow meow, meow meow meow!
Such a catchy little tune!
The visuals and the music are just so damn cute! :D
The gameplay is nice, although sometimes (but rather very rarily) a ball spawns in a thread of different color, forcing you to lose a life upon picking it up.
Good job!

Thank you for your feedback :)

@Baconinvader & @Yaro, my spawn algorithm is supposed to be able to always select an empy space to spawn, but I found that in some cases it didn't work as planned and run out of time to debug it :/
The yarn ball collision is larger than the thread so you should be able to still get it without losing a life, but it's definitly way harder than it should be :/

@Mills Thanks for playing :) That's a nice score ;)

Very soothing game, I like it! My best score was 7600 something =D

What I liked :

  • The gameplay fits very well with the theme!
  • The slow movement and non-killing walls (surprised me) makes for a very calm experience
  • The graphics are colored and joyful
  • The increasing difficulty with the middle walls or moving needle are nice idea!
  • The mice are always very welcome, although I didn't understand why and when they came

What I think could be better :

  • The slow gameplay made me hopeless when I died, at the idea of starting again all of this
  • The unfamous ball spawing on top of a wrong-colored thread. Sometime you can catch it by being on its far side, but sometime not…
  • Some animation on the sprite would be awesome
  • The needle sprite is a bit small, I had a hard time distinguishing the color when I started the game
  • Needles spawning very close to thread balls made me take them in the wrong way and making a useless short loop to have the time weeing any potential bonus appearing =(
  • Since you can walk on same-colored line, I found myself rushing to existing lines to avoid creating new ones, and therefore found myself just hoping that the ball spawned in a good place, I didn't feel I had a impact on wether I'd win the level or not. In fact, the ability to stay in place by walking in a circle anihilate the added complexity of moving needles. Generally speaking, luck plays too much into our final score =)

It's so cute I love it :3
The wiggle of the cat around the cursor is very fun, and I love the visuals. The HUD is very neat and effective !
Only thing is I would love a texture on the black line on level 2. BUT IT'S A JAM GAME !
Congrats congrats congrats !
And also I loooooved the audio track <3

Great thematic and original idea. The challenge is compelling already, yet there are a few small tweaks that would improve it further.

There's a trick to getting a high score with the distance bonus. The cat loves to roll around and rack up a massive heap of yarn while not risking its whiskers one bit. I'd just remove the distance bonus and increase the amount of +100 and 2X bonus tokens to actually push the player to go the long way.

The movement speed is a bit slow and the second level was actually bigger than the first one (didn't quite get to the third… That was 5000 points down the drain!) which makes it less challenging to go around the place. Sticking to walls is also quite easy.

Something to ponder post-jam. Great job!

Overall: Great (8.0)
Graphics: Great (8.0)
Audio: Good (7.0)
Gameplay: Good (7.0)
Originality: Amazing (9.0)
Theme: Great (8.0)
