I finally updated our Evil Triad game. What took the most time was to replace the copyrighted art with… ehem… characters that closely resemble copyrighted art ;) Have fun discovering them as you collect the cards!

Prerequisites

Recording setup

How each part is recorded:

  • Host desktop: Sound & video is OBS (XXX It also probably records the remote voice)
  • Host voice: Audacity
  • Remote voice: Remote's Audacity

How the host hears:

  • Host desktop: N.A., it's his own desktop
  • Remote voice: Skype

How the remote hears:

  • Host desktop: TigerVNC
  • Host voice: Skype

When first launching the recording:

  1. Windows: Make sure the Microphone recording device is enabled
  2. OBS: Mute the microphone channel, only record the desktop. Check the target video resolution & destination.
  3. Skype: Use the Microphone as the recording channel. Start the convo & share the screen.
  4. TigerVNC: Share the screen with the partner, who should be able to hear the desktop (…and maybe his own voice)

On each game:

  1. Launch the game, lower its volume to keep the voices clear.
  2. OBS: Edit the scene to add the game window,
  3. Audacity: Start recording the Microphone on both PCs
  4. OBS: Start recording

Editing

  • Convert the video to a smaller file with Handbrake (MPEG-4 codec)
  • Gather the audio parts and master them with Audacity if needed
  • Edit the video, layer the voices on top of the vid, cut as needed, add in the jingles
  • After rendering at high quality, run the video through Handbrake again to get a smaller file to upload

Polish in progress: Evil Triad 0

Wan • 7 years ago on Feedback Fortnight entry  Evil Triad

For my entry I plan to submit Evil Triad, a card-game prototype made with long-time LD partner @thrainsa & two more friends.

For those who know Final Fantasy VIII, It's heavily inspired by its Triple Triad mini-game. Basically the game rules are the same, but it wraps them in a simple collectible meta-game. It was really fun to make, and it even let us experiment in Unity with multiplayer code (the online mode won't be submitted though, as it's pretty unstable).

At the current state the game is already playable, but I plan to insert a Help screen explaining the rules in-game before submitting the entry.

Also… the game features completely placeholder cards (a mix of previous artwork by graphic artist Prohibe and totally uncleared pics of movie characters)… But replacing them would be a chore at this point so I might release things as it is :P

Introducing... Feedback Fortnight! 0

Wan • 7 years ago on Feedback Fortnight

Welcome to Alakajam's launch event!

What is it about?

For the next two weeks, you are invited to submit any game you worked on this year and exchange feedback on it. You can make a game specifically for the event, but this is absolutely not mandatory! These two weeks are your chance to make people play anything you worked on recently, from a small prototype to an in-progress commercial game, to a previous jam entry that didn't get the attention you needed.

How it works

After you've created your account, feel free to introduce yourself and/or your game using a blog post.

When July 11th comes by, you'll be able to submit an entry, and of course play and comment other people's games! As you leave comments, you'll boost your feedback score and get featured higher in the games listing. You can read more details on the event "rules" on the Help page.

When the event ends, as a reward we plan to make playthrough videos of every game submitted, and publish them on ! If everything goes well the videos should be recorded in the days following the event, probably by members @wan and @toasty (EDIT: First videos are available here!).

To stay in touch with the community, follow AlakajamBang on Twitter and join us on the IRC Chat!

About this site

Alakajam! is a brand new gamedev community created by Ludum Dare veterans, the project being initiated by @wan, author of the Feedback Friends mini-site. Our goal is to start hosting regular game jams, with a first full-fledged, competitive event hopefully taking place in late September.

The site is homemade and, let's admit it, insufficiently tested, so you will encounter bugs. Please let us now if something's wrong or you have a suggestion, by filling this form! We should roll out a couple cool features in the days to come, including a notification system to keep track of comments (EDIT: Done!). Until then you can follow things on your dashboard.

Thanks for joining us, and if you want to give a hand to this brand new community: spread the word, give feedback and why not join us on Github!

Welcome to Alakajam! 2

Congrats! You have stumbled on the Alakajam! website, a brand new community dedicated to game development.

There's not much to see here for now, but stay tuned for the announcement of a first game jam!
