Is this the final form of the game? The version I downloaded seems rather buggy, with text sometimes invisible, the dev log throwing a lot of NullReferenceExceptions, and a few other things.

We're encountering some major building bugs. We're looking through it to see if we can easily fix it.

We'll get back to you asap

Thank you for this experience. The idea is quite cool, and I did like feeling like I was running a shop and had to run about and try keep people happy! However, the dialog is far too slow. Maybe some guidance on crafting the right potion - someone asked for a blue potion and I put the blue stuff in a cauldron, but then it was failed potion still. Great gamejam effort regardless! Needs more rats. Did they nibble off the two finger I had missing?

@HonestDan Text speed can be improved at the lab computer. Yes.. It is a feature haha we argued in the team about it and decided that the shopkeeper needed to spend yo understant the clients faster. Thank you for the comment!.

PS: the shopkeeper lost fingers story is for another future game hopefully ;)

An ambitious project. Very nice graphics, music not so good. And then there are the issues. This'll get list heavy, strap in!

Design issues:

  • Cauldrons and ingredient are in a separate room. Increases the time walking, which is boring.
  • Carrying only one ingredient at a time. More walking, which is still boring.
  • Talking to people is super slow. Increases the time waiting, which is also boring.
  • Every recipe unlocked from the beginning. The first time I lost simply reading the list. It is that long.
  • Ingredients for some recipes are locked. So once I did find the recipe needed I could not brew the potion!
  • A huge influx of customers, thus reputation drops very fast.
  • Because everything is so slow to do due to waiting, reading and walking, there is no chance of serving your customers and saving your reputation.

Technical foibles:

  • An ingredient dropped into an ingredient cabinet cannot be picked up again.
  • An ingredient doesn't always go into the cauldron, it is dropped behind it and cannot be picked up any more.
  • Hands go though walls (should be rendered with a separate camera).
  • Click to go back to menu on the ending screen does not work.
  • Accepting a job shows the whole text, so there goes that feature.

Unfortunate, but you live and learn. Good luck for future projects.

@HuvaaKoodia :

Thank you for your comments, and thank you for trying our game :)
It is true that we had some technical issue and we had our share of issues that made playtesting a bit hard to do, we'll save more time to iron these kind of issues on the next game jam :)

Regarding what you call "Design Issues", they are conscious decisions that were made and this is the experience of shopkeeper we wanted to provide. It may not be to the taste of everyone and we accepted that when we made these. :)

I'll say this though. It is not well communicated, and I should have added an annendum in the how to, that when you accept a job it does give you the whole text but it makes you lose a lot more reputation if you fail.

Loved the idea and modern setting, but as others are saying it's pretty hard when the reputation is falling so quickly and you have to walk a lot when making each potion. Nevertheless, given the time limit and ambition of the project I think you achieved a really good result.

Hi!
Great effort, only thing i didn't like was the scrolling speed of the text when the customers speaked.

A very promising game that is unfortunately still too buggy for me to be playable :( Not sure what I'm doing wrong each time, but at some point I can no longer grab items at all - I only managed once to have the game work long enough to cook a potion.

Too bad because the game idea is interesting, the cool touch UI to buy ingredients & upgrade the lab is awesome, and most of all the setting is full of character, with an art style reminding me of Jet Set Radio.

I'm sad I couldn't do much, sorry about that! To give some more constructive feedback though, how the game works (cooking potions especially) wasn't very clear at first, it took me a lot of trial and error to understand - the video by Aurel300 can probably be very valuable to see how a new player behaves while discovering the game for the first time.

Nice graphics, interesting game. I included it in my Alakajam #1 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/fRBZG2NbaE8
