FUNGIDEFENDER

Join the epic battle against bacteria on the FUNgi side!

Phew, 48 hours can feel really short.

This is my version of a simple tower defense game with fungi. Instead of buying stuff, fungi reproduce.

Using the mouse, you can place fungi anywhere on the map, which then shoot vertically at crossing bacteria.
After hitting bacteria, fungi are "loaded" and can produce spores. If clicked on, they release their spores and create new fungi. If spores of two different kinds of fungi mix together, there a new type of fungi grows.

Pico-Pals! Fun little game! :)

The game over tune hurts and the placement of fungi seems lightly off to the right side in some cases. The aesthetics (art, sound) are absolutely stunning, though. I like the creative gameplay.

I like both Pico-8 and tower defense games — needless to say I enjoyed this game. You nailed the theme as well. Frankly, I wasn't too happy with the theme, but I think you put it to good use. Fungi that grow and combine — an idea that is both apropos and well-executed in this case.

One suggestion I have is to change the trash can to a move icon, or something like that — intuitively, the trash can appears to be something for deleting a tower. Also, music would go a long way in this game. With that said, the rhythmic sound — almost like a heartbeat — fits the mood of the game very well.

@Synchronleuchter yes sorry for that sound at the end! That was me trying to add any kind of sounds in the last minutes of the jam. Thanks for the feedback!

This is such a clever idea for a game and the execution in 48 hours is really solid! Nothing more to say other than great work!

I love this! This is such a clever spin on the genre.

I agree with heyheyhey about the trash can button, would be nice to have a move button instead.

I really like your low res pixel art style!
but as Synchronleuchter already said, sometimes the placement of the mushroom is a little bit off.
I also had trouble to notice when the mushroom charged maybe having different colours for fully charged fungis would be nice. And a kind of "save" or something, so when you die, that you don't have to start every tutorial again.

This is a great entry! The minimalistic style is well thought through and supported by the retro sound effects! I really enjoyed the mechanic of merging two different fungi. I would have loved to see more levels.
If you want to work on this after the jam, I would suggest on also making the levels a bit longerl, as they felt pretty short to me - which is perfectly fine for a jam entry. HAving more fungi and possible combinations would of course be the obvious other thing to do for a post jam version.

Cute little tower defense game! I like the theme of bacteria and fungi and I enjoyed playing your game.
I finished it! :)
I like how the spores fly through the air, but it was not completely clear to me when a purple mushroom would appear from combining the spores.
I found that I needed to move the mushrooms around quite a bit, but I found it a bit annoying to move my mouse to the trash button every time to be able to move a mushroom, that took too long.
Overall, well done!

I wanted to play this more than I could :(
I just can't figure out how to get the third mushroom. Others have mentioned the problems already, so i don't have to go into them. It had a lot of potential though!
