First post. Oi, look, I have *something*. 0

Iris • 5 years ago on 3rd Alakajam!

Pretty much what it says up in the title! I've managed to put together something, although I still don't know if I'll be able to make it on time… tick tock tick tock.

The idea behind it is simple enough: You can collect powerups over and over and over, there's no limit to how many you can stack together: You have no max health, for example. (Always growing)

Let's hope it turns out alright!

Done sleeping! Continuing work! 0

Yes, I just got fresh and everything is happening according to my planned schedule. I got enough sleep and I feel energetic enough for the upcoming 6 hour work period on the game. Thx.

Well it seems my poll is saying people want to see a school simulator built during a game jam. To which I wish myself good luck. It might need to be unranked but I'll do my best to let you build an isometric school.

Meanwhile here's the first screenshots of version 2 of my engine!

Here's one with fog of war enabled and me having line of sight of the natural environment units:

Just about to start on textures for buildings and a few more bits of sprite art.

The Theme 0

Featherbox • 5 years ago on 3rd Alakajam!

I had hoped that this theme wouldn't win. The only things I could come up with for it seemed unnoriginal and far out of my scope, but after wasting some time on that idea, I came up with something that I quite like. I was hoping to get most of the systems for it done tonight but seeing as I'm too tired to do the math properly at the moment I've decided its best to do my best to finish the UI and do what I can with the mechanics. Since I doubt I'll have it in a state that I can show here before tomorrow, I'll try to get an early start then in the hopes that I can actually finish this game.

Got some stuff working 0

I was pretty sure I had learned to reduce my scope in the last 2 jams, but here I am again!
I won't be able to do much tomorrow, so I'm pretty sad but this is what I have so far!

A turn-based fornite where the storm expands instead of shrinking, and it never stops!
I don't even like fortnite but I found the idea hilarious

Implementing the theme... 4

EDIT:

I added the player! Although, I think I'll switch to mouse controls as keyboard controls will probably get people confused at first.

Progress 1 - Design is done! 0

I have streamed for 2 hours 40 minutes and designed the game and sketched the art a bit :)

I took the Always Growing as your character growing up and getting older so its age is its level. And aging has some positive and negative effects!

I think it was very productive, now it's time to go sleep and go on tomorrow.

Physics fun 0

I was disappointed when I first saw the theme because it was the one I put last. In a lot of ways that really helped though because all the cool big ideas that I had looking at the others went out the window for something that I could actually conceivably finish this time around. I can see why its done this way now.

I have gone with a version of Snake with a truck and container trailers. I don't normally use built in Unity physics constructs like wheel colliders and hinge joints because they tend to break but this time I decided any weird nonsense was a feature not a bug. Here is the progress I have made so far, visuals are borrowed until I get to making the art after I finish the coding. Funky physics included.

Have a look

Concept Art and Stuff 2

DaFluffyPotato • 5 years ago on 3rd Alakajam!

I'm going to make an isometric combat game. (realtime even though it's isometric)

Some drawings n stuff:

Some artwork I've already done:

I'll reveal how the game itself works (and uses the theme) in another post later.
