I have my sights on Alakajam 3, but I have no idea how much time and energy I'll actually have. Saturday will be a day of helping someone move to a new place, or start the process - not entirely sure. That means Sunday I'll probably be tired. Among all that I'm in the midst of my second ever Indie Game; Rally of Rockets

But enough excuses

I will likely enter the unranked division so I can continue to put efforts into my indie project, while still being able to do and show something for the jam. I think that is a great think from Alakajam and hope many people can benefit from working on longer term projects- Bite sized weekend jam projects are lots of fun; but when you have 15-20 such projects - it can be time to focus deeper.

I'll be using C++, TurtleBrains and random whatevers and streaming on twitch.tv/timbeaudet for any of the developments I perform through the weekend.

I wrote a little thing for a local game news site about the jam. Check it out!

I just found out about Alakajam and I like it! I'm still trying to figure stuff out but I'll try to make a game using Unity, Blender and Adobe Photoshop. I'll also stream most of the Jam on my Twitch channel.

Were In! We'll be using :

Game Engine: Unity
IDE: VisualStudio
Audio: Bosca Ceoil & Audacity
Art & Models: Photoshop,Ilustrator, & Kenney Asset Forge

Wish you all the best luck, see you a the end!

P.S. Is Kenney Asset Forge allowed anyways? We don't have a 3D artist so we kinda have to use it :(

Final Preparations 3

larzdk • 5 years ago on 3rd Alakajam!

I've just completed a last few couple of bugfixes on my custom engine, and hopefully it's in a good-enough state to give the jam a decent run!

Things my isometric engine now has (especially coded for this jam!):

  • Unlimited terrain types and blending masks
  • High quality water effects
  • Fog of war
  • Proper pathfinding
  • Scriptable random maps
  • Numerous performance improvements

Things I didn't get around to finishing:

  • Multiplayer
  • Elevation on terrain

I'm seeing if I can get blending on the fog to work before the jam starts. If not it's no biggie, I just figure it would improve the visual effect a little.

I can't wait to show it off in the jam!

Almost forgot to write this post because I didn't want to do it too early before the start of the jam but seeing as there are less than 12 hours 'till the jam starts, now seems like a good time to write it.
This is my second alakajam and maybe fifth jam. I've been learning to better utilize time with each so I hope to make something good this go round. As for tools I'll be using the löve2D framework. Graphics will probably be done in Gimp but if I have time to do anything more than pixel art I'll probably use FireAlpaca.
