Hey everyone, Volvary here!
I always find it interesting to see why people join jams and where they come from, background wise.
As far as background goes, I am a Game Designer at heart, with a Game Programmer training.
My past reasons for joining games jams were multiple (experience, fun, etc), but this time my reason is simple: As a team lead in the medical simulation field, I do not have a lot of time left for Game Dev. So for me, Game Jams are now a reason to drop everything for a weekend and indulge in what I like the most: Game Development.
This time around, I will be potentially joining alone as I do not have a team. However, I would not be against joining a team as one of the programmers if someone is interested.
Thanks for sharing your background, It's always interesting indeed! Same with me, I find game jams are great to just unplug my brain from the daily routine and go full creative mode :) If you would prefer finding teammates rather than entering solo, we have recently opened that CrowdForge thing, maybe posting there could help.
@Sniperninja564 A popular upcoming jam is the PROCJAM, I never joined but the topic is interesting. The a game by is cover thing is also a great concept, though it's already halfway through.
My favorite is always the Global Game Jam in January. (26-28 this year) Most cities have at least one location hosting the event and offering space for the week-end.
Other than that, Ludum Dare is one of the more popular and has a lot of participant. Once again, a lot of cities have physical events for the LDs.
@Wan The PROCJAM really makes me want to start learning about procedual generation again! Might start learning about it after this one.
I'm just sad that all the "Generation" things are all in November. I personally do the NaNoWriMo each year so I can't do the NaNoGenMo (National Novel Generation Month) and now the PROCJAM. :(
As far as working with you Antares, I would be happy to! (I have a CrowdForge team open if you want to join it)
Hi, I've wanted to get into more gamejams. Do you have any recommendations? I'm aiming from 1 week to 72 hours!
