I only had enough time to spend about 8 hours on this, although I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. :D
This is awesome. 14 was my record.
Really cool game, very impressive for only 8 hours of work ! This is one of the juicyest jam games I've played and that's great.
I think this could make for a cool local multiplayer game (first to 10 goals wins or something). And of course some punchy music would be a great addition.
Great job on doing so much with such a short time, it's really neat !
the particles gave the correct feedback on hits, and overall the game is fun and polished enough.
Playing it with my friends would be great, but i admit the scope was perfect for 8 hours of work
Yep, that's a duel, albeit a pretty abstract one! I guess you kept the AI dumb on purpose, but I wonder how this would play between two humans. Then it's more a matter of bashing the shoot button and aiming somewhat right. More simultaneous balls, less friction, and maybe some randomly shaped (and moving?) obstacles could make it more exciting.
Visual juice dialled up to 11/10 (it's one juicier!). It's a bit hard to see your aim line when your eyes are fixed on the grey balls though, especially because the big fat polygon rotates the other way.
Audio is a bit harsh and could use some work. Also a nice fast-paced chiptune of course!
But great job for such a short time frame!
@thomastc the AI gets closer to perfect the more you score to the point where things basically become impossible. (no clue what score that happens at though)
Nice, starts to feel like it gets to be a bit too much of a button mashing competetition hammering on the up arrow to fire out balls and a bit more of a strategic and less frantic style with trying to aim richochet shots or something might have been nice but maybe thats just me. I found the juiciness might have gone a bit far for me also, just on the screenshake and screen glitch thing starts to trigger a bit too often, all the particles are nice though I can never have too many of those. I was a bit confused my the scoring/progression system. I would have expected something more like a first to 5 or something then move on to a harder AI, otherwise when you lose a point you have to keep replaying for a bit to get back to where the challenge was it seems. Any way nice work for a smaller entry.
Turbo charged air hockey? That's a new one! It is a duel as well, although a relatable setting, for instance a backstory about a future air-hockey tournament, would improve the take on the theme.
Gotta give praise for the visuals effects, very spectacular. The challenge gets quite tricky after 10 points, which is always welcome. I do have a few small issues, nevertheless:
Great work, for so few hours especially.
