Avoid the spikes as you fall down, try and get the best score
Falling is a game developed for Alakajam #4, the theme being Falling
Your goal is to get through as many randomly generated spike layers as you can, use A & D to navigate as you fall and gain speed. My record is 31.
This game was made over the 48hr period of the Jam, I hope you enjoy testing and playing it, please feel free to be critical in the comments.
I tried to cheat but it didn't work (you only get points for going through the gaps)! Challenging game, all I could do was 22 points. Simple but gets hard fast!
Falling, the most rudimentary take on the theme.
Managed to find the sweetspot between the spikes; the grinning gal smirked her way past 4600 points. Then the spike spawner broke.
Constant acceleration is not needed, or at least it should be muuuuch slower. I would increase the length between the spikes and vary the door location wildly from left to right.
Additionally the character should have some inertia. Making her trickier to control increases the skill floor and ceiling at the same time!
As an extra mechanic, each wall could have a certain color (or each door a certain shape) which you need to match in order to pass through. One more challenge to keep things fresh for longer.
As mentined, very basic and broken too. Hmm, I believe you can do better!
(Oh, forgot to mention. The visuals are simple, but fine this time! The score counter should be anchored to the top of the screen though.)

Obviously, ESO is better.
HOWEVER, nice little game. I have thought of some pros, and some cons. Here they are.
Pros:
Addictive, and quite original
Challenging even for skilled gamers (me)!
Very nicely made and the simple colours fit
well with the actual game
However…
Cons:
Accelerates much too fast, slow this down by a half and
it would be much better
You can glitch out of the map and it sorta breaks the game
(doesn't like to return to main menu for a few seconds)
Music in the background would be nice, and also a beep or boop sound when your character passes each point would be quite satisfying.
A good game nonetheless!!
