Gravity Boots Salesman

sell gravity boots to stranded people

Craft gravity boots and sell them to people stranded in the air!

There's an in-game tutorial that covers everything, but I've added some notes below in case anyone needs a reference.

Controls

  • Arrow Keys - Move / Jump
  • X - Invert Gravity
  • C - Toggle Gravity
  • V - Interact

Selling Boots

  1. Gather 3 plant fiber from plants and 1 gravity core from the box.
  2. Craft gravity boots at the anvil.
  3. Come in contact with a floating NPC to sell them boots.

Upgrades

  • +1 jump
  • +1 inventory slot
  • 35% cooldown reduction

this is a pretty solid game (I'm one of your biggest fans btw). I like the gravity mechanics, but maybe it could be more accesive with WASD and maybe something else to toggle and invert gravity. In a very good position for expansion. :D

@salashx Thanks for playing! The input layout was chosen to specifically be accessible for both QWERTY and AZERTY keyboards.

Great game for a 48h jam
i don't have anything to point out, the game is satisfying to play, very good audio quality, you even had time to add a quick ingame tutorial which makes it very intuitive to play and great graphics as usual
(btw i also coded my game in pygame)

nice job

➕1️⃣for adding WASD controls. I don't have directional keys mapped on my ergonomic keyboard, so I always end up having to whip out a standard QWERTY keyboard with an arrow pad during jams.
You could probably just map additional keys to do the same thing:

  • ⬅️/A/Q to go right
  • ⬆️/W/Z to jump
  • ⬇️/S/S to go down
  • ➡️/D/D to go right
This way you're compatible with WASD as well as AZERTY with the tradeoff being that sometimes the WASD player might jump instead of inverting gravity… I guess you'd also have to account for mapping action buttons to the right-side of the keyboard compatible with both layouts and things might get more dicy… I guess I can see why you made this decision. 🤔

Game is great. Felt like it respected my time and being able to quadruple jump felt good in the end game. Only negative I have is that the follows you have to collect don't read very well of the background, so it took me a little longer to understand that mechanic.

This is great game, nice graphics and sound too. I did get a few crahses when coming in contact with the cooldown upgrade. It happened twice in a row, then my third attempt I managed to play, but did not go in contact with the upgrade.
Other than that, pretty fun game.

This was the error.

@gunnar Did you happen to download the game shortly after I posted it? I'm pretty sure the issue should have been fixed yesterday.

Well as always you knocked it out of the park.

I'm 72 years old and you are one of my heroes.

I have made a commitment because of you to build a bare bones library like you have to where you can insert graphics and sound and have a really nice piece of software.

I see a lot of your other games in this one, so that was really inspiring.

Keep up the good work, you are a fine coder.

Loved the game - the graphics were great, I loved the little flailing arm animations on people floating without their boots. Took a minute for it to click for me what the loop would be, and it felt after a while I was making the same circle through the level. It would be cool to push the player to explore a bit more - maybe resources aren't as plentiful in an area you've farmed, for example. But for a two day game jam this was fantastic!

Looks great and sounds great. Extremely well rounded jam entry. Having a cooldown on the gravity powers - especially for how long it was to begin with - made me feel very strongly that i should be using other methods to get around. Otherwise I'm doing a bit too much standing and waiting. My first order of business on my second playthrough was to get a double/triple jump as quickly as possible because of how much better it felt to naviagte the world in that way.

The art and music honestly blew my mind, they are so well done. It took me my first run to get a grasp of what I was doing. Really well polished. Like others I found the controls a little hard to get used to, and found myself pressing the wrong button. An option for keybinding will be a great addition. I also personally found the gravity core to be in the one place a little monotonous, unless I missed other places you can get it, I think it would be nicer to add some variety for it. Onto the positives, I found myself racing and switching between upgrades and selling more boots which was a very fun aspect, I have to say I found the inventory slots the best upgrade. The gravity toggle feature is very creative because it allowed me to move using momentum, maybe not for this game but I can imagine it to be such a great feature if paired with a dash that carries momentum. The idea for the game was pretty great and I had a good time!

I'm here from your youtube and have been following you for a while, your ability to make games at such a low level is incredibly impressive and inspiring to me, thank you and keep up the good work :)
