The world of MagicLand is in chaos! Evil forces have stolen the magical Book of Spells, making it impossible for civilians to practice magic. But all is not lost! With your special powers, you can sneak into the evil lair, find the Book, and return magic back to MagicLand.

Your character has two forms: Rogue and Brute. As the Rouge, you can use magic spells to deceive and sneak past enemies. The Brute is less agile, but can use his attacking skills to defeat enemies in his way.

However, be careful, as your spells are limited! You must pick up spell icons to gain spell abilities.

A and D or arrow keys to move
W, space or up arrow to jump
Q to switch between character forms
Esc to pause/restart

As the Rogue:
E to spawn a duplicate (distracts enemies)
Right click to place teleport, left click to teleport (cannot teleport through walls)
F to go invisible (enemies will not detect you)

As the Brute:
E to smash nearby enemies
Left-click to fire fireballs

There are three types of enemies:

Sentries don’t move, but they are always on the lookout! Their lasers will fry you to bits. Don’t move in their line of sight as the rouge, or be prepared for a quick death!

Goblins fire energy balls from their massive stomachs. Need I say more?

Ghouls move back and forth to patrol large areas. Don’t get too close, because they bite!

That’s all! Now it’s time for YOU to save the day!

(I haven't tested on Mac so let me know if it works.)

Played the Web-build

  • help text didn't fully fit on screen
  • was hard to figure out how to use the abilities

I definately see some potential for a state change character with 2 different ability sets that you switch between as you move around the map.

Reminds me of trine, very nice.

Good job. It's small game, but fun to find out the tactic to win, but it is a bit unclear in the last platform that you have to go up. However missing animations do ruin it a bit and you should have commited some time for them.

The good parts are the concept and the way you thought the mechanic. I believe its not really good implemented, considering you only had 48 hours at top.

I'd really like to see further development on this game. Nice entry and good job!

Indeed similar to Trine with different kinds of abilities and limitations to spice things up.

Figuring out solutions to the problems was pleasant enough, if quite easy. The controls and the feel of the movement and abilities wasn't great. Just about functional enough to complete the levels with many restarts.

In the end I never had to use the duplicate or the invisibility spells, which is a shame. A longer level with challenges specific to those skills would have been great. A the same time it would not have been great as there are no checkpoints. Starting from the very beginning of the level everytime isn't very enjoyable as the run can be cut short instantly due to a small mistake or input issue.

Animations would improve the presentation a lot, the brute's swing looks pretty nice already and the pixelwork in general is ok. The environment graphics are dull and uninspired.

Reverting back to the beginning of the level resets the music too. It should keep looping on its own. The lack of sound effects is a big minus.

The abilities are magical on paper, but the setting also reminds me of cyberpunk, so this could work with technomancy instead of spellcasting. Magical effects are also missing, which further erodes the thematic connection.

Good idea, rough execution.
