Books - A Wizards Adventure

Im really happy do show you my first game, completely made in 48 hours! It is called Books - A Wizards Adventure and plays in an old library at night. The main character, a wizard, has to defeat as much ghosts as he can to survive. You can also collect books, which are laying on the ground to unlock new spells .Because of the many dark areas and the "music" , it feels a bit like a horror game and the graphic style is inspired by "Dont Starve".
Have fun^^

CONTROLS:

  • use WASD to move
  • Your spells are shot towards the cursor
  • Use right-Mouse for Shooting
  • Use Escape to open the pause-menu (only ingame)
    • There you can adjust the resolution too

I like the lightning and dark area, but gameplay wise the game really didn't have that much of mechanics. If I want to buy new wand I have to get myself killed first. Appart from getting enough books to buy new wand I couldn't find any other progress measurement.

This is really great for your first game! I'm impressed!
The gameplay is pretty fun, though it does get a little repetitive after a while.
It's is a good idea to add more spells as incentive to keep playing.
Maybe add some indication when you get hit other than a heart disappeariing so that you can see if you're not paying attention to the hearts. Also this might not work but maybe a minimap that fills itself in as you move so you can see where you've already been.
Other than those though, this game is really good, well done!

Well done for the first game. Something you should do for the mouse is have it raycast on layers and ignore the bookshelfs. When behind the bookshelves it would only shoot at the shelf, and I couldn't do anything about the ghosts.

Pretty decent game, especially considering that it's your first. It's a good time killer but the lack of progression mixed with some unpolished areas (mainly aiming) made it get a little tiresome after a while. Still, I like the atmosphere and it's playable enough, so good job for a first game!

Mate! This was really compelling!

The aesthetic is bang on, and I was pleasantly surprised to see some interesting interactions with the ice wand.

I wanted to note that the animation on the little books is quite appealling, very bouncy and fun. I'd be curious to know whether they are spawned at random or if you have some guidelines for where you place them. ^_^

I think I would be quite happy to play a larger version of something with this visual style and atmosphere.

Great job!
