Play and rate games! 0

Raindrinker • 2 years ago on 14th Alakajam!

That's it, all the games are in - well done everyone! Now it's time to play and rate each other's games!

Constructive feedback is one of the best ways to learn and improve your game design skills, so please dish it out in buckets. If you haven't submitted a game yourself, you can still play games and leave feedback, the only thing you'll miss is the ability to rate games - so please do play and comment everyone!

The voting phase lasts until March 13th, when the ratings will be counted and the top 3 of the solo and team categories will be crowned!

Go go go! Play and rate games!

Theme shortlist voting started! 0

Raindrinker • 2 years ago on 14th Alakajam!

Now the second round of theme voting starts: Shortlist voting! This means theme submission is no longer possible - instead, the ten most popular themes from the first phase will be available for everyone to rank. Drag and drop the themes into a ranked list in order of preference.

If you have not done yet, also feel free to create an "I am in" Post. What tools are you using? What is your setup like? Did you take part in previous gamejams? Tell the community a little bit about you and your goals for the upcoming 14th Alakajam!

Finally, in one week, the jam kicks off! Exciting!

Theme submission now open! 0

Raindrinker • 2 years ago on 14th Alakajam!

The 14th Alakajam is happening from February 25nd to 27th. But first we have to find a theme! You can now submit themes you like and vote for the themes of other participants. All you have to do is to create an account and start to submit and rate themes.

The Best themes are those that help you get started but also can be interpreted in wild and interesting ways!

The voting process
For one week (starting February 11th) you can submit up to three theme suggestions and rate theme suggestions from others either positively or negatively. After one week, on February 18th, theme submission will be closed. The top ten themes will then be made public and everybody can rank them in order of preference

The final theme will be announced with the launch of the jam (at Friday February 25nd, 7pm UTC), live on stream.

Things to do right now
Create an account if you don't already have one
Write an "I am in" blog post - tell us who you are, what tools you use or what themes you like!

Theme submission and voting is up! 4

Theme submission is up for the 8th Alakajam!

Whether you're one of those people that submit floating islands on every jam on the planet, or you're a Voxel follower and really want to have GIANT ROBOTS win for the first time in history, get in there and submit some themes!

Be original! favor themes that:
- Refer to gameplay and mood instead of literal theme and elements
- Are abstract or can be interpreted in many ways
- Don't constrain the games too much into a specific game genre

But hey, I'm not the police, do whatever you want :)
Have fun!

And the theme is... TOWER 0

Raindrinker • 5 years ago on 7th Alakajam!

The 7th Alakajam has started! Let's make awesome games!

Submission

The end of the jam is depending on whether you pick ranked or unranked:

  • ranked: Sep 22th 7:00pm UTC, which means you have 48 hours
  • unranked: Sep 23th 10:00pm UTC, which means you have a bit more than 72 hours

After the jam you have one hour of submission time

We all enjoyed the awesome opening ceremony created by TigerJ (Twitter, Twitch). If you missed it, you can still find it at his Twitch channel.

And the theme is "TOWER"

TOWER

Build it, raise to the top of it, destroy it, or whatever. Conquer the heights.

Cool things to do during the jam

gl hf to all of you and see you on the other side!

The 7th Alakajam is coming! 0

Raindrinker • 5 years ago on 7th Alakajam!

The next edition of the Alakajam will start soon, on September 20th!

As always, the event is about making a game, from nothing, in a weekend. Teams or solo devs, beginners and professionals are all welcome to participate in the Alakajam community. If you opt-in to the competition, you will be ranked against every other contestant!

Dates Phase Description
September 6 7pm UTC Theme submission and voting You can submit theme ideas for the jam and vote for all other submissions.
September 13 7pm UTC Theme shortlist Only the best 10 themes are kept. Rank them by order of preference in this final phase of theme voting.
September 20 5pm UTC Countdown stream TigerJ hosts an official stream on Twitch to launch the event!
September 20 7pm UTC THE JAM!!! Start making a game solo or as a team, and simply submit it before the deadline!
September 22 8pm UTC End of ranked jam The main competition ends here, exactly 48 hours after the start time.
September 23 10pm UTC End of unranked jam If you want to go for a relaxed weekend - or need more time - you can create a game in the 72 hours of the unranked jam.
October 6 7pm UTC Results After two weeks during which all entrants are invited to play, rate and comment on other peoples games… The results are released and the winners crowned!

Rules

There are three divisions:

- Solo, in which you make a whole game alone in 48 hours
- Team, in which any number of persons can gather to make a game in 48 hours
- Unranked, a more open division which grants about 72 hours to finish the game. Useful for those not interested in the competitive aspect of the event, want to work on an existing project of theirs, or simply did not finish their game in time.

See the full rules for the Alakajam.

How to enter

All you need to do is:

  1. Create an account on this website
  2. Publish your game before the deadline

A lot of participants also post an "I am in" blog post presenting themselves or their team before the event. Describe what tools and frameworks and engines you will use to create your awesome game! Which themes do you like? Let us and the community know!

If you can, feel free to spread the word about the jam - the more we are, the merrier! glhf ;)

Feedback Fortnight 2018! 0

Raindrinker • 5 years ago on Feedback Fortnight 2018

Dec. 14 update: The fortnight has now started, but we've left submissions open for any late entries. Have fun reviewing the games!

What is Feedback Fortnight about?

During the next weeks, you are invited to submit any game you worked on. Then, until the end of the month we'll play each other's games and exchange feedback on them. You can make a game specifically for the event, but this is absolutely not mandatory! These weeks are your chance to make people play anything you worked on recently, from a small prototype to an in-progress commercial game, to a previous jam entry that didn't get the attention you needed.

If you don't even have a game but you have some game art, or a mockup, or something you want to get feedback on, share it too!

Me and some of the other Alakajam people will make sure to give rich feedback on your games and show you around the nice Alakajam community :) @Wan and me specifically will make sure to review each one of the games throroughly.

How does it work?

After you've created your account, feel free to introduce yourself and/or your game using a blog post.

From 7th to 14th of December you'll be able to submit an entry, and from 7th to the end of the month everyone will play and comment other people's games! As you leave comments, you'll boost your karma and get featured higher in the games listing. You can read more details on the event "rules" on the Help page.

To stay in touch with the community, follow @AlakajamBang on Twitter and join us on the Chat!
