Will you be able to score a perfect game in all 12 levels?
The score is evaluated on how closely the word you are composing resamble the target word, so do not worry if you are not able to score a perfect match. Each level requires at least a score of 6/10 to pass to the next one.
Windows and Linux users, there is a binary executable
For MAC users:
The Source Code is available on github, it requires only python and pygame instaled, then just run the main.py file with python and the game should start.
Here a guide on how to install pygame on Mac: https://www.pygame.org/wiki/GettingStarted#Mac%20installation
Hi lody, thanks for the feedback. The idea of the game evolved during the weekend. Originally was planned to be a game in which the protagonist (the book) was writing himself, and you had to look for words to compose the senteces of the book. But as soon as I started implementing the gameplay, I realized that the idea was not working with words and sentences, but worked quite well with letters. Since, for what I got from the Jam rules, the theme was more as a way of inspiring that a rigid rule, I sticked with the idea that made the gameplay work (also because at that point, I did not have the time to change it).
The gameplay is decent, and the graphics are cute. Music is passable. My only gripe with this game is the camera, which makes it hard to see where you're going a lot of the time, and you end up running into the wrong letters on accident because you don't see them coming from the border of the screen.
Nicely done! I like the idea that you sometimes have to pick up wrong letters but you can drop them with you little friends. Could turn into a nice puzzle platformers if you made some more mechanics. Graphics are nice but UI is pretty boring. UI is not the main part here of course :)
I like platformers in general but you really need to know what you are doing if you make one in a jam. The jump here is very annoying. It's hard to jump over letters, but you can do it. It's hard to jump to upper platforms and not always clear if you can make the jump. The jump and moving horizontally is way too fast as well. Trying to make certain jumps gets very annoying.
People complain about the camera, but I didn't have any problems with it. I liked the level intro camera thing :D
Thaks a lot for the feedbacks. I realized that the jump feels not good. I think the main issue is on the level design, where the letters are often in narrow passages where it is very difficult and annoying to jump over them. For the next game I will be more carefull, and maybe work more to improve the feeling of the character that, as you mentioned, it is fundamenta in a platformer
I tested your game , and well , except that your character is a book , there isn't "any" real references about books , I know the concept can be linked to the current topic of the jam , but currently , the theme is "book" , for me it's an out-topic , but don't worry , your game was pretty fun , and you know , jams is for experience , anyways good work ! (and don't forget my first observation , for the next jam)
