I'm in 1

Kerri • 6 years ago on 1st Alakajam!

Hey, so it's been a while since I last tried to complete a jam, with LD36 being my last entry. I'm doing this one alone and I'll be using Love2D, Pyxel Edit and BFXR (If I get as far as sounds).

I've not competed in a jam alone before and I'll be entering the unranked category, I still don't expect to finish but I'm going to give it what I can and hope I can submit something before the end.

Good luck to everyone and I look forward to the judging.

Decoding cryptic hints 4

dollarone • 6 years ago on 1st Alakajam!

There are some cryptic hints about the theme on twitter. I've been trying to decipher them. Here's my ideas

Hint: for this week-end, North Korea diplomacy sims are getting less likely

I think this means "You Are The Bad Guy" is low in the theme list.

Hint: Low stock value for platformers having Tim Cook host keynotes & collect coins

Apple…coins…hmm closest match is "industry" perhaps?

Final hint: Stealth games with torchlights don't sell well these days. I repeat, torchlights are not hype

This has got to refer to "Light the way", right?

What do you think? Have I been played by the puzzlemaster?

In... Maybe! 2

Got some free time this weekend but not completely available … Let's see if inspiration strikes! Good luck to everyone taking part - have fun!

Getting Ready! 1

Aaaaaaaargh • 6 years ago on 1st Alakajam!

I will be competing on my own. Here in my part of Australia it will be 5am Saturday when it kicks off which is a nice change from LD. I use Unity, Blender, Photoshop, Substance Designer and Painter, bfxr and flstudio mobile.

Less than 24h before theme reveal! 1

How are you all preparing? Are all your tools already prepared?

Mines sure are not. I learned that I might have a major disturbance this week-end and my internet is coming in today so I will be setting up tonight.

I'm very excited to take on the challenge. 3

Hi Guys,

I've been working with Unity for about 3 years and I didn't make anything special with it. I was often cancelling my projects that were halfway done, so i thought it is time to change that and fully accomplish something. I don't know if the 48h will be enough to make a game ( I'm participating solo, so the challenge will be harder).

Probably I will make 2D pixelart game or 3D voxel ( dont know the theme so i can't decide right now).

Tools that I will use:

  • Blender and MagicaVoxel (3D Modelling)
  • Photoshop (PixelArts, UI)
  • BoscaCeoil (Soundtrack)
  • VisualStudio (Scripting)
  • Unity (Connecting it all together)

**My theme votes are: **

  1. SpaceStation
  2. Industry
  3. Space
  4. Robots
  5. Light The Way
  6. Nightfall
  7. You Are The Bad Guy
  8. Contagious
  9. Connections
  10. Alchemy

Good Luck!

I'm going to do that jam to learn and have fun with friends, we are a team of 4 or 5 peoples (if the last can do it).
I'm a french student in art & programmation but we will do the jam with Construct 2.

I hope everyone have fun ! :)

Exploring the strange world of music trackers 0

Wan • 6 years ago on 1st Alakajam!

We're in! I will be entering with teammate @thrainsa with whom I have a long history of jamming together.

During our previous game, made for Ludum Dare 39, I have mostly removed myself from the code part to focus on art & music. This time, because I'd like to spend more time to polish & test the Alakajam! site itself, I think I'll just do music, and either don't do art or go with something super basic.

Unlike most past jams for which I used the Reason sequencer, I'd like to take a shot at trying music trackers! I'm totally not used to their workflow, but I'm really curious to try them and discover the world of chiptunes. For now I'm considering the small tracker shipped with TIC-80 (pictured), depending on how I feel I might explore bigger stuff like FamiTracker.

Bonus: Listen to @wan's previous jam tunes

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh these jams are addictive. Only started doing them pretty recently and done the last 3 Ludum Dare and had so much fun.
After years of messing around with game dev, game jams finally got me to finish some games and get other people to play them, probably because they taught me to embrace the strange world of programmer art.

Looking forward to have a game jam on european friendly times. Also I tried and failed to complete an entry for the Dragon Jam, probably because i tried to start from scratch in C++ and make an RPG, so this will be a chance for another shot.

Tools

  • Unity (probably) or maybe phaser, or monogame, maybe even C++ and SDL ;),
  • Aseprite or Blender
  • Reaper, maybe bfxr if i'm low on time

Heres a character from the C++ game i'll be putting on hold for the jam, I went for the gameboy palette, and if you working in 4 shades of green why wouldn't you make a Cthulu character right?
